Lee Mackenzie is a Canadian watercolor artist from Victoria BC Canada. To me, watercolor gives the opportunity for both realistic and impressionistic paintings. I love being able to use strong, eye-catching colors, sweeping washes and images with a mysterious quality.
When I paint, I try to tell a little bit of a story. I hope each watercolour brings to the viewer an opportunity to dream, to imagine and perhaps to escape. |

I’ve always been attracted to Chinese and Japanese paintings, and images from the Orient. Along with landscapes and florals from Canada, Oriental images often find their way into my work.
I try to not limit myself to one theme or one style of painting. There is a whole world out there to explore in images, and many ways to interpret them. I think you’ll see a sense of experimentation and exploration in my watercolour paintings.
Whether you choose a landscape, a floral painting, an abstract or image from nature, my goal is to give you a painting that will shine light into your room, and give you a positive feeling each time you look at it. I feel that responsibility as each painting is created.
I also like to encourage others to paint. I didn’t begin my career as a watercolor artist until I was well into my 30’s. I didn’t know that artist was hidden away inside waiting for a chance to come out. My first paintings were of birds, landscapes, sunsets and florals. The more I learned about wet-into-wet techniques, the transparency of watercolor, and the unpredictability of water media, the more I like watercolor.
On this website I am offering original watercolor paintings and two limited edition prints. It is also my goal to make my paintings affordable. I don’t paint them so they will sit in a drawer in my house. One may be destined for your home, business, corporate office, and will hopefully bring you much pleasure. |
